MarNebraska’s largest city is located on the Missouri River in the eastern part of the state, and was one of the important cities of the westward expansion of the United States. We often visit Omaha on storm chases, especially later in the season, when the northern states are more apt for severe weather. Here are some attractions in the area.
Open for over 120 years, this zoo was deemed “world’s best” by TripAdvisor in 2014. The zoo houses the largest big cat exhibit in North America, the world’s largest nocturnal exhibit, and the world’s largest indoor rainforest.
The leading art museum in Nebraska, containing works by Titian, Rembrandt, El Greco, Monet, Renoir, and Matisse. It also has an extensive collection of western American art.
A renowned arboretum and botanical garden in Omaha. The four-acre arboretum is divided into regional plants representing Midwestern ecosystems. It also includes a large herb garden and rose garden.
A vibrant revitalized part of Omaha, including shops, art galleries, restaurants, and bars. Very popular with locals and visitors alike.
Nearly a mile long, this pedestrian bridge crosses the Missouri River to link Omaha with Council Bluffs, Iowa. There are great picture opportunities on the state line, and the view of downtown Omaha can’t be beat!
