YOUR TRAVEL QUESTIONS ANSWERED HERE

[an error occurred while processing the directive]
When it comes to travel, everyone has questions. What do I pack? Where do I go when I get there? How much free time will I have, and how pressed are we for travel time? Then of course storm chasing is an entirely different animal. You’ll have safety questions and concerns, weather questions, thoughts on travel logistics and so much more. While this list isn’t exhaustive, we hope it answers your most burning questions. You can always get in touch with us on email or social media with anything we might have missed. Your question might even wind up here!

WILL WE SEE TORNADOES?

We want to say yes, we really do; but thanks to the unpredictability of nature, no storm tour can make that guarantee. We do promise to pursue severe storms within range every single day we can. We want to see tornadoes just as much as you do, and that will always be our main focus!

HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN CHASING STORMS?

We've been chasing over ten years. Our team has lots of experience, with plenty of tornado observations to our credit.

I CAN TAKE PICTURES AND VIDEO, RIGHT?

Absolutely. We encourage you to bring your camera and video equipment!

HOW MANY DAYS CAN I SIGN UP FOR?

Our weekly tour reservations are only available in seven- and ten-day blocks. You can sign up for as many as you like, we even offer specials for multiple bookings. We also offer Day Tours if you're within the vicinity of our target on chase days.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING?

Our van has room for everyone to bring one medium-sized suitcase and one personal item such as a backpack or purse. We suggest you pack some of the following:

  • Clothing for both hot and cool weather - rain and wind can quickly make weather conditions much colder!
  • Long Pants
  • Rubber-soled shoes
  • MP3 player or other personal music device, with headphones
  • Camera!
  • Chargers for electronic devices (AC power outlets will be available in the van for charging)

WILL WE STAY AT NICE HOTELS?

We always try to target national chain hotels with high ratings, even if it means driving a little further that night to get there.

TELL ME THE TRUTH: IS STORM CHASING DANGEROUS?

When done improperly, storm chasing can be risky. There are the more obvious risks brought on by severe weather: lightning strikes, flash flooding, hail and more. There are also obvious dangers of highway driving, which is why our tour guides have been certified in defensive driving. Now that you're aware of the obvious risks, we do have waivers that must be signed before we can embark on the tour.

DO YOU DRIVE INTO TORNADOES LIKE THE GUYS ON TV?

Hey, we know those guys! However, we don't do what they do. We stay back far enough for safety and for the perfect shot of the storm. If we do run into them on the chase (and it's highly likely), we'll try our best to stop so you can check out their tank.

IS THE CHASE VAN IN GOOD SHAPE?

We put the van through rigorous daily inspections, and we are meticulous about upkeep (oil changes, etc.). We also keep a full-size spare tire onboard, just in case.

I HAVE NO CLUE WHERE I'M GOING. HOW DO I GET FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL?

Our staging hotels in Oklahoma City and Denver are close to their respective airports, and offer free shuttle service to and from the hotel. We'll have the hotel ready for you, but it will be your responsibility to get to and from the airport.

WE LIKE TO PARTY, WILL THERE BE TIME FOR THAT?

First off, celebratory chase drinks are allowed as long as you're of drinking age in the United States. That being said, if you party hard enough that you can't get out of bed the next day, we'll have to leave you on your own if we need to drive to our target area. It will be your responsibility to meet back up with us later. No drugs of any kind are allowed on the tour.

HOW MUCH SHOULD I KNOW ABOUT WEATHER BEFORE THE TOUR?

No meteorological knowledge is required, but you're welcome to study up on severe weather before your tour date.

WHAT ARE YOUR SAFETY POLICIES?

If you suffer from any medical conditions such as: heart problems, blood pressure problems, diabetes, or motion sickness; please consult with your doctor before booking your tour. If you are in a condition that prevents you from getting in and out of the van quickly or sitting comfortably in the van, the tour may present some hardship for you as well. We will do our best to accommodate everyone possible. Please contact us about your needs and together we can determine if a storm chase tour is suitable for you.
